Dun Urlann Graveyard, Ballyferriter, County Kerry, Ireland Ireland Genealogy Projects Archives Kerry Index Copyright File contributed by: Contributed by Mary Leonard Walsh Photos _______________________________________________ DUN URLANN GRAVEYARD, BALLYFERRITER, COUNTY KERRY, IRELAND This cemetery is located about a kilometre from Ballyferriter village, if you take a turn for the Ceann Sibeal golf club, signposted from the main Ballyferriter to Dunquin road About 100 metres down this road you come across a sign post for Reilig Dun Urlann ( reilig is the Irish word for cemetery). Through the first entrance gate you come across the more recent section of the cemetery and through a 2nd gate you come to the older cemetery which has a very old church ruin with a lot of headstones placed against the interior walls. The scenery from the cemetery is spectacular with sea and mountain views. Photo No.0 Signpost Photo No.1 Wall with old headstones. Photo No.2 Dun Urlann history This Parish Church possibly dates to the 13th Century but the existent features date to the 15th century. the Church served the Dunurlin parish community up to the Reformation (17th Century) but prior to excavation in 1991 none of it's walls were visible.
