Lowell, MA 21 June 1890 On Tuesday evening Mrs. Mary O'Brien died at her residence 83 South street at the ripe age of 98 years. She was mother of seven children only two of whom are now alive namely Edward O'Brien who resided at the house of the deceased and Mrs. Kate O'Connor widow of Bernard O'Connor who for many years kept a grocery store on Gorham street. Deceased was born in County Leitrim, Ireland, and came to this country when quite young settling in Boston. Her maiden name was Mary Cassidy. A few years after her marriage she removed to this city, where she resided to the time of her death. She was present at the laying of the corner stone of St. Peter's half a century ago. Mrs. O'Brien had been unwell for the past three months. She remembered many of the important events of Irish history of the first part of the century, and often would relate stories of by-gone days. Up to the last she retained the full uses of her faculties. Deceased was of a very kind and gentle disposition and had many friends.
