Obituary: McGann, Maurice May 27, 1919 *********************************************** Ireland Genealogy Projects Archives Limerick Index Copyright ************************************************ File contributed by: Karen McGann hearmi@comcast.net January 25, 2009, 2:51 pm MCGANN, MAURICE MAY 27, 1919 certified copy of vital record (Death Certificate) Maurice died of "accidental Drowning" at Feters hot springs in Sonoma County California where he had been employed as a chef. The body was found in the swimming pool by an attendant who first noticed a mans clothing and then saw the body on the bottom of the tank. The body was recovered and every effort was made to resuscitate the man but all to no avail. Life was extinct before the discovery was first made. McGann was a native of Ireland, 46 years of age and is survived by a wife and four children. The wife resides at Feters with her husband but the children are grown and live in San Francisco where they are employed. It is believed that McGann had gone to the bath for an early swim before the patrons of the resort arrived and in his first plunge probably struck the bottom as there was a slight abrasion on his forehead. No one knows how long he was in the water before being discovered but it is not believed to have been very long. The body was removed to the parlor of undertaker H.F. Bates at Somona where coroner Phillips held an inquest. Additional Comments: Maurice was born in Ireland Nov. 1873, but soon there after came to Tiffin Ohio where he was raised. He was married to Laura Caldwell of Wyandot Ohio. Maurices parents were William McGann of Abbeyfeale, Limerick, Ireland and Mary Fitzgerald also of Limerick Ireland. He only had 3 (known) children. Harry, Madelon & Ralph. All died in California. Records have also been found with the surnames of 'Began' and 'Megan'. Feel free to contact me!
