CURRAN (CURN), MARY - HIGGINS, PATRICK APRIL 1858

U.S. Civil War records
Mary was applying for a pension and stated she and Patrick
were married by the Rev. Father Richard O'Farrell in County
Longford in April of 1858. With the help of the Longford
List I was directed to the Diocese of Ardagh. They
confirmed that Father O'Farrell was in Killashee, County
Longford in 1858.

"That she was married in Ireland and has no means of knowing
whether there was a church record kept or not, nor does she
know whether the person who performed the marriage ceremony
is living or not. The priest was Rev. Father Richard
O'Farrell and was an old man then. There was but one person
who witnessed the marriage and she was an old lady. and to
the best of the afficiants knowledge and belief is dead.
that she has proved her continous cohabitation with deceased
as his wife with no prior marriage of either herself or
soldier which is the best and only proof obtainable of
marriage, and she requests that the same be accepted in lieu
of other or better proofs which cannot be obtained. That
her husband died at five o'clock Thursday morning October
14th 1897, not Oct. 13th 1897 as is stated in the death
certificate that she is correct in the date and time of
soldier's death.

Signed by Kate Bunbury (her married daughter and my great
grandmother). Mary Higgins, X her mark. this was filled
out on the 15th of November, 1897
