Will: Edgeworth, William January 20, 1827 *********************************************** Ireland Genealogy Projects Archives Longford Index Copyright ************************************************ File contributed by: Rosalind Dunning ros.dunning@outlook.com January 13, 2018, 2:46 pm EDGEWORTH, WILLIAM JANUARY 20, 1827 Source: National Archives Kew England Written: January 20, 1827 Recorded: January 13, 2017 (Copy from Ireland) I William Edgeworth of Edgeworthstown do hereby will and bequeath my Estate in the County of Longford consisting of the lands of Lisduff Rosemine and Garryduff (which I have purchased from Lovell Edgeworth) unto my Brother Charles Edgeworth for life and in default of his having issue living at the time of his death to my younger Brother Francis Beaufort Edgeworth for life and in default of his having issue living at the time of his death to his younger brother Michael Pakenham Edgeworth and his heirs for ever but in case the said Charles Sneyd Edgeworth should die leaving issue my intention is that such issue if a Son should take the same Estate to him and his heirs and if more than one son then to the Eldest but if such issue should be a daughter then to her and her Heirs and if more than one to them and their heirs as tenants in common and not as joint tenants and in case the said Francis Beaufort Edgeworth should come to the possession of the said Estate hereinbefore limited to him and should die leaving Issue to take in like manner life Estates as hereinbefore limited to the issue of the said Charles Sneyd Edgeworth I will and bequeath to Mrs Fanny Edgeworth who has been to me the kindest of Mothers ever since I can remember the sum of four hundred pounds To my kind hearted brother Lovell one hundred pounds the above sums to be paid out of money in the new four per cents in the Bank or Ireland I also will and bequeath to my most excellent Sister Maria Edgeworth four hundred pounds and to my Sister Emmeline King the sum of two hundred pounds To my dear younger sisters Fanny Maria Edgeworth Henrietta Butler Sophy Fox and Lucy Jane Edgeworth the sum of sixteen hundred pounds to be equally divided between them To my younger brother and Ward Francis Beaufort Edgeworth one thousand pounds and to his younger brother Michl Pakenham Edgeworth the sum of four hundred pounds the above sums of £400 £200 £1600 £1000 and £400 to be paid respectively out of £4000 Irish left to me by my father's Will In case said fund should prove insufficient said legacies to be paid out of my three per cents in the English funds or any other personal property of which I may die possessed or in failure of sufficient funds said legacies to abate proportionably or if I die possessed of more funds said legacies to increase proportionable I also will and bequeath to my dear Sister Honora Edgeworth one Canal share left to me by my Aunt Charlotte Sneyd as also three shares in the Manchester and Liverpool rail way To my kind friend Captain Francis Beaufort all shares in the united Gas Company or any other shares that I may have purchased my books to be divided between my Brothers ffrancis and Pakenham by lots my repeating Circle of 18 inch diameter to my early friend Romney Robinson my repeating Theodolite of 8 inch diameter to my friend Captain T Beaufort my Sextant and Chronometer to my most respected friend Mr Brinkley now Bishop of Cloyne as a slight mark of my Gratitude the tools that my father left to me to ffrancis Beaufort Edgeworth any other instruments to the care of Lovell Edgeworth to form a collection for the use of the mathematical class at his school of Edgeworthstown my papers to be disposed of by Honora Edgeworth and I do hereby appoint Captain ffrancis Beaufort of London and Charles ffox of Dublin to be my Executors dated this 20 day of January 1827 seven William Edgeworth (Attestation Clause) Barney Woods _ Michl Ferrall _ Michael Duffey Memorandum I desire that the Bond to my Sister Maria Edgeworth for the sum of £1580 may be raised upon my Estate of Lisduff when required and that none of my other friends should be subject to this debt William Edgeworth Jany 23rd 1827 (Appearance by Hugh Hamill of Russell Place in the County of Dublin as to manner and character of handwriting of deceased 16 July 1829) Proved at London with a Codicil 3 August 1829 PCC Prob11/1759
