CEMETERY: DUNDALK, ST. NICHOLAS'S CHURCHYARD

There are two large stone-built vaults in the churchyard.
The larger one belongs to a family called Page, well known
in Dundalk in olden times. The smaller, to the Tipping
family of Bellurgan, near dundalk.

Alexander | Shekleton late of Peppers-town | Gent decd and
Dorothy Tyrrell | otherwise Shekleton her daughter | Dorothy
departed this life the 9th day of Dec 1788 aged 35 years. |
And Jane died the 12th Feb | 1789 in the 59th year of her
age | Alfo Joseph Shekleton Son to | the aforesaid Jane
Shekleton | who departed this life the 17th of | October
1810 aged 56 years | Also John Shekleton Son of | the
aforesaid Joseph who departed| this life the 28th day of May

Underneath this Tomb lie the Remains of David | Atkinson
Esq. of Corderry late Captain in the | Louth Militia who
departed this life on the 2nd | Day of August 1807 Aged 38
years. Also the remains of | Mrs Hannah Atkinson Wife of
David Atkinson | Esqr of Channen Rock who departed this life
on | 9th day of July 1815, Aged 84 years.Here also are
deposited the remains of the said | David Atkinson Esq late
of Channen Rock | who departed this life on the 25th day of
March | 1816, in the 84th year of his Age: | George G.
Atkinson Esqr Corderry died | 18th August 1855, Aged 54
years. Also Elizabeth Fleming | aged 19 years died March 7th
1867 | Sarah Fleming aged 18 years died 17th April 1867 |
and Alexander Fleming | aged 18 years died 21st Mary 1868 |
All three being children of the late John Fleming Esq the
Hill Monahan.

Aged 8 years | Also A Jane died 9th Feb. 1823 | aged 7
years.

Note:- Captain David Atkinson, of Corderry, was third son of
David Atkinson, of Channon Rock.His wife was Mary Jane,
daughter of Benjamin Bell, of Ballynewry, Co. Armagh.She
died 3rd June 1820.David Atkinson, of Channon Rock, was
second son of George Atkinson of Dundalk, by Margaret,
daughter of David Gaussen, of Newry.His wife, Hannah, was
daughter of John Trueman, of Brockley, Co Armagh, by Mary
Smith.John Fleming, of the Hill, Monaghan, was married to
Mary Atkinson, granddaughter to David and Jan Atkinson. Henry
Smith, of Channon Rock, was married to Mary, only daughter
of David and Hannah Atkinson.Elizabeth Grindall Robinson was
granddaughter to David and Anne Jane Atkinson, so were the
infant children of John and Anne Jane Atkinson.
