This is the last Will and Testament of me Edmund Burke 
Esquire (commonly called Edward Burke) a Lieutenant Colonel 
upon the half pay unattached now residing at Cheltenham in 
the County of Gloucester first I direct that in the event of 
my decease happening at Cheltenham or its neighbourhood I 
may be interred in the Burying Place under the Church of the 
Holy Trinity there as near as may be to the remains of my 
much lamented friend Lucy Sykes and I desire that as soon as 
I am placed in my Coffin the Ring engraved with the name of 
the said Lucy Sykes may be placed as near my heart as 
possible and buried with me next I desire that all my just 
debts and my funeral and testamentary expences may be paid 
as soon as conveniently may be after my decease I give 
devise and bequeath unto my Nephew Thomas Irwin all my farms 
and lands situate in the County of Mayo or elsewhere in that 
part of the United Kingdom called Ireland with the rights 
members and Appurts thereto belonging to hold unto and to 
the use of my said Nephew Thomas Irwin his heirs executors 
admors and assigns for ever or for all such term estate and 
interest as I may have therein respectively and I earnestly 
request that my friend Thomas Lynch Esquire may be continued 
as the Agent and receiver of the rents of my said farms and 
lands for the benefit of my said Nephew I give and bequeath 
unto my friend John Kennedy Esquire of No 15 Richmond near 
Dublin the sum of one thousand pounds sterling and I 
bequeath to the said Thomas Lynch the sum of three hundred 
pounds sterling and to James Kilkelly of Drimcong near 
Galway in Ireland Esquire one hundred pounds I likewise 
bequeath to my servant Thomas Perry the sum of fifty pounds 
sterling together with all my heavy Baggage my Wearing 
Apparel my Horse Sadlery Boxes Portmanteaus and Watch and I 
direct that the aforesaid Pecuniary Legacies shall be paid 
within six calendar months next after my decease and that 
the bequest in favor of the said Thomas Perry shall be free 
from any Legacy Duty and as to all the Residue of my 
Personal Estate whether consisting of ready money monies in 
the English Irish or foreign funds or in the hands of my 
Bankers or Agent and all other my Effects of every nature or 
kind whatsoever I give and bequeath the same unto my said 
Nephew Thomas Irwin his Executors Admors and Assigns to and 
for his and their own use and benefit and lastly I hereby 
appoint the said John Kennedy and Thomas Lynch joint 
Executors of this my last Will and do revoke all former 
Wills Codicils and Testamentary dispositions by me at any 
time made In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and 
seal this twenty second day of March in the year of our Lord 
one thousand eight hundred and thirty seven Edwd Burke Lt
