In the Name of God Amen I Edward Lynch of Breafy in the 
County of Mayo in the Kingdom of Ireland Gent being of sound 
and disposing mind memory and understanding Do make publish 
and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner 
following (that is to say) I commend and resign my soul to 
Almighty God my Creator and I commend my Body to the Earth 
to be decently enterred in the Abbey of Straide with my dear 
deceased friends of Breafy or in the next Abbey to the Place 
where God shall please to put an end to my life and as to my 
Worldly Estate and fortune I dispose thereof in manner 
following that is to say I will and direct that all such 
Debts as shall really and Justly be due from me at the time 
of my death and my burial Expences be paid as soon as 
conveniently may be and that after my Debts and burial 
Expences are Paid the sum of two hundred Pounds Ster shall 
be by my Executors laid out at Interest In Trust that the 
Interest thereof shall go half yearly and be by him Paid to 
my Wife Mary Lynch otherwise Kelly during her natural life 
in lieu of any Claim she may make to my fortune and that 
after her decease the said two hundred pounds shall revert 
and be in my Executor in Trust that the yearly Interest 
thereof shall go and by paid to my Daughter Sarah Lynch 
during her natural life and that after her decease the said 
two hundred pounds shall go and be paid to such of her Issue 
as she shall by writing dispose thereof and that in case she 
shall have no Issue the said two hundred Pounds shall remain 
and be in my Executor in Trust for any uses or Purposes as I 
may hereafter by any writing Apply the same I will and 
direct that my Executor shall give and lay out at Interest 
so much of my fortune as that the Yearly Interest thereof 
shall be sufficient to Pay and discharge the yearly 
reasonable Expences of my said Daughter Sarah's Maintenance 
and decent Apparel as to my Executor shall seem fit during 
her remaining Unmarried or otherwise unprovided for but in 
case my said Daughter Sarah shall be minded and determine to 
enter into a Religious Seminary and shall enter into the 
same my will and direction is that my Executor in such Case 
Pay such sum of Money on her Account to such Seminary or 
Person or Persons Governing the same as usual on the like 
Occasion together with such Necessary Expences as are 
usually requisite thereupon and my Will is that my Executor 
shall give and lay out at Interest the sum of two hundred 
pounds Ster In Trust that the Interest thereof shall go and 
be paid yearly to my said Daughter Sarah for her own 
separate use in such Seminary as she may chuse to reside in 
but in case my said Daughter Sarah shall not enter into a 
Religious Seminary and shall happen to marry my will is that 
my Executor shall Assign or Pay the several Principal Sums 
of Money herein before Provided for her own immediate use 
and Preferment in manner aforesaid except the said sum of 
two hundred pounds herein before reserved for my own 
disposal and I will and bequeath the sum of ten pounds to my 
worthy friend Dr Edmund Bourke and the sum of thirty Pounds 
to Rose Dwyer to her own seperate proper use to be by her 
disposed of as she shall think fit and the sum of two Pounds 
ten shillings to Mr Thomas McNicholas and his fraternity at 
Straide and the sum of two Pounds ten shillings equally 
divided to Mr Randall McDonnell incumbent of Castlebar 
Parish and his Curate Assistant Mr Walter Burke upon the 
Promises of these Reverend Gentlemen to perform such Acts of 
Devotion to recommend my soul and those of the faithful 
departed to the mercy of our Creator and Redeemer as to my 
Exr shall seem fit to stipulate with them and I will and 
bequeath the sum of five pounds to Mr Anthony Geratty for 
his Civility Extraordinary to me and the sum of two Guineas 
to Mary Duffy otherwise Prendergast and the sum of two 
Guineas to William Furgus in regard to his Old Master my dr 
frd Alexr Brown Esqr and the Sum of One Guinea to Ellis Fahy 
and the Sum of One Guinea to poor Phillip Walsh of Bohir and 
that a Mourning Ring shall be purchased and presented to my 
worthy well beloved friend Dominick Browne of Breafy Esqr 
and that my Executor shall expend what to him shall seem fit 
in erecting a Monument wth an Inscription at my Burying 
Place and a stone with an Inscription erected in the Chapel 
of Breafy entreating the prayers of the Abbot for Mercy to 
me and the souls of the faithful departed and I will and 
bequeath to the most indigent persons of the Parish of Oran 
in the County of Roscommon the sum of ten Pounds not giving 
more than ten Shillings to any one Person and I bequeath the 
sum of two hundred Ster to my dear and well beloved friend 
John Edmd Browne of London Esqr from my Esteem of his Merit 
and for his Affection Assiduity and Zealous Attachment to my 
Interest and Affairs and I do hereby Nominate and Appoint 
the sd John Edmd Browne Executor of my last Will and 
Testament hereby expressly revoking all other Wills by me at 
any time heretofore made Provided always and it is my Will 
that my Executor shall be Answerable only for Such Money and 
Effects as he shall receive and that he shall not be 
Answerable or Accountable for any Bank Banker or other 
Person with whose or in whose hands any part of my Personal 
fortune may be lodged for safety or to whom the Same or any 
part thereof may be by him given out at Interest in 
execution of any of the said Trusts or uses herein Created 
or declared nor should he be responsible for the 
deficiencies or Insufficiencies of my Personal Estate for 
the Purposes aforesaid and that he shall by and out of my 
personal Estate reimburse himself and Pay and Allow all 
Costs Charges damages and Expences which he shall or may 
expend or sustain or be put to in or about the Execution of 
this my last Will and Testament or any of the Trusts in him 
reposed or in any wise relating thereto In Witness whereof I 
have to this my last Will and Testament put my hand and seal 
this thirtieth day of March one thousand seven hundred and

A Codicil to be added to and to be adjudged deemed and taken 
as Part of the within last will and Testament of me Edward 
Lynch of Breafy in the County of Mayo I give and bequeath to 
my Cousn Henry Lynch the sum of fifty Pounds Ster and to his 
Sister Mary Lynch the like sum of fifty pounds and to his 
Brother Philip Lynch the sum of one hundred pounds Ster and 
to my Cousin Una O'Don otherwise Lynch the sum of ten Pounds 
sterling and to her Daur Una O'Donl the like sum of ten 
Pounds and to her son Terence O'Donl the sum of five pounds 
ster and to her son Pheline O'Donl the like sum of five 
Pounds and to my servant John Matthews ten Pounds sterling 
and to Patrick Wright two Guineas and to father Randle 
McDonl of Castlebar the sum of ten Pounds Ster and to Mr 
Walter Burke of Castlebar the like sum of ten Pounds in 
Consideration of the Prayers they have Already read and the 
like number that they shall hereafter read and to far David 
Burke of Hall the sum of five Pounds Ster and to father John 
Blake of Straid the like sum of five Pounds and to father 
Thomas McNicholas of Straid the like sum of five Pounds and 
to father Edwd Dwyer the sums of ten Pounds for reading 
Prayers to recommend my soul to God all which prayers are to 
be numbered and adjusted with my Executor as he shall think 
Just and fit and I do in all other respects ratify and 
confirm my said within written will and Testament In Witness 
whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this fourth day 
of February one thousand seven hundred and seventy six Edwd 
Lynch
