This may refer to a possible Early Christian monastic foundation at this location associated with Saint Manchan of Lemanaghan and the line of the enclosure may be followed by the curve of the public road today. The church stands in the centre of an oval-shaped graveyard. There are references to a church here from the 1600s but the date of the present church is uncertain.
