ASSIZES - TIPPERARY FREE PRESS, 4 APRIL 1827

The Criminal Court was opened by Judge Barton, who came upon 
the Bench about 10 o'clock.

Thursday March 29th.

John Daly was put to the bar, and indicted for having, with 
others, broken into the house of John Foley, at Lisadober, 
can carrying off wearing apparel and £3.18 in cash. 
Guilty-Judgement of death recorded.

Edmond Smyth and Margaret, his wife were placed at the bar, 
charged with stealing a bank note, amount £10, from Edmond 
Burke, of Clonmel, on the 7th February.

Margaret Smyth, not guilty. Edmond Smyth to be transported 
for 7 years.

Friday March, 30th.

Mary Dwyer was charged with stealing several articles of 
wearing apparel, on the 1st Sept. last, at Coolquill. 
Guilty, to be transported for 7 years.

Patrick M'Evoy, charged with stealing three cows on the 24th 
August, pleaded guilty.

Patrick White was charged with stealing two pigs on the 9th 
March, the property of Timothy Connell. Guilty-to be 
transported for 7 years.

Michael Fox was charged with stealing a pig on the 1st 
December, at Burrisokeane, the property of John Salmon, and 
in another indictment, a pig, the joint property of James 
and William Salmon. Guilty-Transportation for 7 years.

Patrick Keliher, for stealing wearing apparel, the property 
of Patrick White, on the 9th August-Guilty, to be 
transported for 7 years.

Ellen Connell, for stealing sundry articles from Mrs 
Elizabeth Higgins, on the 5th Oct. Guilty-transportation for 
7 years.

Ellen Shea, otherwise Murphy, was charged with stealing bank 
notes, amount £30, the property of Michael Gallagher, on the 
13th August, at Carrick-on-Suir. Guilty-transportation for 7 
years.

Michael Guilfoyle was placed at the bar, charged with 
stealing a gun from the house of John Ryan at Garmamurray, 
on the 21st Nov. and also for burglarious entering said 
dwelling house. Guilty-Sentence of death recorded.

John Hanly and Johanna Dwyer, for stealing a shirt at 
Two-Mile-Bridge, the property of Wm. Butler, on the 23rd 
Feb. John Hanly, not guilty. Johanna Dwyer, Guilty, not 
sentenced.

Mary Byrne, stealing a bank note for £20, the property of 
Mr. James O'Connor, Clonmel on the 15th January. Guilty-Not 
sentenced.

Timothy Guilfoyle, for stealing one sheep, the property of 
Edmond Kennedy, on the 25th Sept. last. 
Guilty-Transportation for 7 years.

Thomas Ryan, stealing four sheep from Thomas Hayes, and four 
sheep and five lambs from Martin Maher, at Two-Mile-Borris. 
Guilty-Sentence not passed.

Honora McGrath, stealing lace, the property of Eliza and 
Johanna Power, of Carrick-on-Suir. Guilty-To be transported 
for 7 years.

William Gorman was arraigned for the murder of Edmond Shea, 
at Tubber, and pleaded not guilty, and said he could not be 
ready for his trial before Monday.

Four prisoners were then discharged by Proclamation, after 
which the court adjourned.
