Obits: Manton, Thomas January 29, 1909 *********************************************** Ireland Genealogy Projects Archives Tipperary Index Copyright ************************************************ File contributed by: Mary Mamalakis mmamalakis@aol.com January 29, 2009, 2:09 pm MANTON, THOMAS JANUARY 29, 1909 St. Louis Post - Dispatch Missouri The funeral of Thomas Manton, who died at his home, 2100 O'Fallon Street, will take place Monday morning at St. Bridget's Church, and internment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Manton was in business at Twenty-first and O'Fallon Streets without interruption since 1875 when he came to this country. He was one of the best known citizens of the old Kerry Patch district, and was the oldest parishioner of St. Bridget's. He was born in Newrard, County Tipperary, Ireland, Nov.1,1840, and was 70 years old when he died Friday from a complication of diseases due to old age. He was married in 1875 to Miss Mary Ryan, who survives him, with three sons and two daughters: Miss Kate Manton, Miss Mamie Manton, John J. Manton, former clerk of the Court of Criminal Correction; Edward A. Manton, who was in business with his father, and Thomas F. Manton. Additional Comments: There was a picture of Thomas Manton above the obituary. I have been doing a one name study of the Manton surname from Ireland and so collected this record. My paternal great-great grandmother was Catherine Manton/Mantin who married William O'Meara in Moycarkey Parish in 1838.
