In the Name of God Amen I James Ryan of the Town of Clonmell 
in the County of Tipperary Cooper being of sound mind and 
disposing memory do hereby make this my last Will and 
Testament hereby annulling revoking and making void any Will 
or Wills which may have at any time heretofore been made by 
me Now having received a Letter from one J Dunn who 
describes himself as Serjeant J Dunn C Company 5th 
Battallion Artillery Langor Central India which Letter bears 
date the 18th day of August 1854 in which he the said Dunn 
states and mentions the death of my brother Thomas Ryan 
which he the said Dunn stated took place in the Hospital at 
Langor on the 12th day of August 1854 and the said Serjeant 
J Dunn further states that my said brother Thomas Ryan did 
make a Will duly witnessed in which he the said Thomas Ryan 
did leave unto me the sum of Twenty five pounds be the same 
more or less Now having no living relative and being anxious 
as I before stated to settle my worldly affairs while I have 
strength and capacity to do so Do hereby devise and bequeath 
unto Ellen Ryan my dear and well beloved Wife all my 
Personal Effects goods chattels and all property of any kind 
whatsoever to which I may be entitled to both at Law and in 
equity save and except the aforementioned sum of twenty five 
pounds be the same more or less the distribution of which 
sum is as follows I leave of the aforementioned sum of 
twenty five pounds the Sum of six pounds to Catherine Moore 
otherwise Phelan my sister in law and the sum of thirty 
shillings to Margaret Moore otherwise McAuliffe and the sum 
of ten shillings to Catherine Phelan and the sum of ten 
shillings to Ellen Phelan the aforesaid Catherine and Ellen 
Phelan are the nieces of my dear Wife and the remainder of 
the said bequest of my brother Thomas Ryan to my dear and 
well beloved Wife Ellen Ryan In witness whereof I have 
hereunto set my hand and affixed my Seal this 12th day of 
March One thousand eight hundred and fifty five James Ryan
