NEWS ITEMS FROM THE FREEMAN'S JOURNAL APRIL 5, 1817

Westmeath.
Mullingar, April 3rd.
On Saturday last, James M'Loughlin was executed at the
front of the gaol in this town, pursuant to his sentence at
the last Assizes, for a burglary and felony in the house of
James Banon, near Ballymore in this County,-previous to his
being cast off the awful platform, he declared himself
perfectly innocent, being neither directly of indirectly
concerned in the robbery for which he was convicted; this
declaration excited the universal sympathy of a vast
concourse of people who assembled on the occasion. After
hanging the usual time his body was given to his friends for
interment.
