Will: Kelly, James June 10, 1825 *********************************************** Ireland Genealogy Projects Archives Westmeath Index Copyright ************************************************ File contributed by: Rosalind Dunning ros.dunning@outlook.com November 4, 2017, 5:55 am KELLY, JAMES JUNE 10, 1825 Source: National Archives Kew England Written: June 10, 1825 Recorded: November 4, 2017 In the Name of God Amen I James Kelly a Native of Westmeath in Ireland but at Present a Resident of Demerara being of sound mind and memory do hereby make my last Will and Testament first I resign my Soul to God to the Almighty in hopes of Pardon for all my misdeeds through the mediation of our Blessed Redeemer and my body to the Earth to be buried in a decent manner secondly I will that all my just debts and funeral expences be paid I will and bequeath to my Brother Thomas the sum of one thousand Pounds sterling provided that he has regularly deposited in the hands the money that I have sent to him from time to time for that purpose and all for my Account I will and bequeath to my Brother Patrick the sum of five hundred pounds sterling I will and bequeath to my Brother John the sum of five hundred pounds sterling I will and bequeath to my Brother Charles the sum of five hundred pounds sterling I will and bequeath to my Sister Mary the sum of five hundred pounds sterling I will and bequeath to my Housekeeper Elizabeth Meredith the whole of my Slaves and a reasonable support during her attendance on my Daughter Mary Ann Margaret Kelly and during her life time to possess the said Slaves but at her death to return to the said Mary Ann Margaret Kelly I give will and bequeath to the aforesaid Mary Ann Margaret Kelly the whole of my remaining property and that the aforesaid Mary Ann Margaret Kelly be immediately sent to a Nunnery and there to remain for education till she is twenty years of age and then to be allowed to marry or to lead a life of Celibacy as she may think proper it is also my wish that the aforesaid Elizabeth Meredith Mother of the aforesaid Mary Ann Margaret Kelly do accompany her to the aforesaid Nunnery and there receive the same attention as long as she wishes to remain with her but should she wish to return to this Colony to be furnished with means for that purpose I will and bequeath to the Orphan Chamber of this Colony the sum of twenty Guilders Holland's Currency and request that they will not interfere with my Executors Lastly I will and bequeath that should the aforesaid Mary Ann Margaret Kelly die without legitimate Heir the whole of the bequest by me to her be converted into a Charitable fund for the education of all my Poor Relations who may wish to attend And I do hereby nominate and appoint my friends John Laurie Esquire of Good Hope Planter and Messrs Murray Brothers & co Merchants George Town to be my Executors in this Colony and Thomas Fitzgerald Esquire of Louth in Ireland and Mr Patrick Kelly of Ballintrig (?) also in Ireland to be my Executors in England and Ireland In Witness whereof I have set my hand and seal this tenth day of June one thousand eight hundred and twenty five James Kelly Witness Michl O'Loughlin _ Wm Johnstone _ John Brown_ Thos E Laud _ Jno Hyatt _ J M Dimkin _ John Tullo Proved at London 23 March 1826 by the Oath of Thomas Fitzgerald limited to the Deceased's Effects in England and Ireland power reserved to Patrick Kelly PCC Prob11/1710
