DONLEA (NEE POUNDER), ANN JULY 25, 1926

Barrington Review, 29 Jul 1926
Nearing Century Mark, Mrs. Ann P. Donlea is Dead Mrs. Ann
Pounder Donlea, 98 years of age, died at the residence of
her daughter, Mrs. John Welch, on Garfield Street here last
Sunday. High requiem mass was held at St. Ann's Church
Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock. Rev. John A. Dufficy of
St. Anne's officiating, and Rev. E. A. McCormick of Crystal
Lake assisting. Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery. The
six sons of Mrs. Donlea acted as pall bearers. Mrs. Donlea
has lived in or near Barrington for nearly three-quarters of
a century. She was born in Ireland in 1828 and at the age
of 14 came to the United States with herfather. In Chicago
she met Patrick Donlea and married him in 1855. Patrick's
father, John Donlea, had purchased from the government
various tracts of land in Cook County when he came from
Ireland and the young couple came to this section to live
shortly after their marriage. Four sons now live in or near
Barrington: William, John, James, and Henry. A fifth son,
Thomas, lives in Elgin, and a sixth, George, lives at
Rowley, IA. A daughter, Mrs. John Welch, with whom Mrs.
Donlea had made her home, lived here. A son, Frank Donlea,
died only last week. In addition, Mrs. Donlea left eighteen
grandchildren. Mrs. Donlea was an interesting figure in
Barrington, where she was probably the oldest resident in
the community. She remembered her childhood in Ireland
perfectly and only with the last few days had occasion to
mention an incident of it. She was a member of St. Anne's
Church and a charter member of St. Anne's Society of that
church.
