Pembroke Road

North side from the west end:

At the west end of the road is an interesting terrace, probably circa 1840.  Terminating the terrace is a two-bay, two-storey house with a single-bay, three-storey tower which is set slightly forward from the line   of the terrace. The walls are rendered and the tower is flanked by strip-pilasters. Between each floor of the tower are string-courses.   The ground-floor window, which is wider than the other windows, is inset in a blank, segmental-headed arch.

The tower, which has a flat roof, may once have had a balustrade but still has a cornice. The rest of the house, and the adjoining two houses’, (which have three bays each) are of two storeys, with lined and rendered walls and a string-course on the sill level.  The sills are granite.  These three houses have fluted greek doric door cases with segmental-headed, leaded fanlights of a rather unusual design, and are fronted by wrought-iron railings.

The next house is of three bays and three storeys, with rendered walls and channelled rendering on the ground floor, a string-course, a cornice under the eaves and an ionic doorcase with a fanlight set in a scooped-out surround.  The panels on the door have egg and dart moulding and the windows have plaster architraves.  The first floor has cast-iron balconies and the house is fronted by wrought-iron railings.

Next is a plain, three-bay, two-storey house with plaster architraves round the windows.  The inset doorcase has timber brackets with chevrons.  In front are wrought' iron railings.

Near the east end is a curious,   small,  low, three-bay, single-storey building with strip-pilasters on the facade, octagonal glazing-bars in the windows,  a cornice and a wide pediment with antefixae decorated with anthemions.  On the roof are two stacks set diagonally.
