Contributor Brendan Lynch shares names of immigrants that he has extracted from the Ellis Island Immigration Museum website www.ellisisland.com.

He explains that these entries are mainly individuals from the parish of Castlegregory, County Kerry including Cloghane with a small number from surrounding parishes. Records were found by searching the database for the surnames in the parish in the census of Ireland in 1901 and 1911. There are certainly many more Castlegregory natives in the database who have not been recorded here. Some spellings have been standardized e.g. Connor to O'Connor. Misspellings in the Ellis Island website were recorded with the correct spelling. When searching the database, try alternative spellings for both first name and surname.

The amount of information recorded on each passenger increased as time went on. In early records the destination might be recorded as "sister" or "brother" in a named city or the city name only. Then the name of the person at the destination was recorded e.g. sister Mary Murphy at (address) and from 1907 the name and address of the nearest relative in Ireland was also recorded. Note that from 1907 each entry extends across two pages or screens in the database.

Some emigrants from Castlegregory gave Dingle as their last residence since it was the nearest town. A few gave Tralee, others gave their native townland. Persons returning after a visit to Ireland gave their US residence and will have been missed from this list.

Multiple entries occur where individuals were booked on a particular ship but did not travel.

For presentation here, several columns have been combined to make the tables narrower. Marital status includes abbreviations for Single, Married, Widowed. The Port listed is the departure port.
