When St Pat's boys will be boys

THIS photo was taken by Croydon-based Dermot Hennessy on one of his many
visits home to Carlow. He went to live and work in London as a
psychiatric nurse when he was just 20 years old. To this day he still
keeps in close contact with his family and friends in Graiguecullen. His
son Gavin, who accompanied him on this visit in 1978, was allowed to
play in the tournament which was based on the World Cup format of the
time. The event proved to be very popular among club members with all
players getting game time. Results were only of secondary importance. It
was all about enjoyment and participation.

Joe
Maher:
From St Clare's Road he went on to play senior football with Graiguecullen and
is now living in Crossneen. He also won a Leinster junior football championship
with Laois in the early '90s.
Alan Dowling:
He played soccer for St Pat's and Castle Rangers while he also won an U21 FC
medal with Graiguecullen. He still lives in Graiguecullen.
Martin Byrne:
Another player from Maher Road he played up to youth level with the club. He is
self employed and lives locally.
Kieran Doyle:
From Pearse Road he moved out to Ballyhacket where he is now living but commutes
in to Carlow to work.
Ken
Coogan:
From Derrig Avenue, he still lives locally.
Bobby Doyle:
He played underage football with Laois but moved to Canada. He came home for a
spell but eventually moved back across the Atlantic where he now lives and
works.
Damian Hennessy:
From Church
Street
he played football and soccer up to underage and still lives locally.
Neil Farrell:
From England originally, he lived in St Fiacc's Terrace but his family settled
in Carlow Town. In later years he played a little golf and five-a-side soccer.
He still lives in the area.
Michael Hennessy:
From Marlborough Street, he played juvenile football with St Pat's but has
drifted away from the club. Club members met him some years ago when he was
working in Intel in Leixlip but he has lost contact with the club.
Gavin Hennessy:
Son of Dermot he was allowed play in the tournament while accompanying his
father on a visit home. He played youth football with Crystal Palace and is
still a season ticket holder with the club. He is a printer in Greenwich and
lives in Croydon.
Martin Comerford:
From Sleatty he
played underage with the club and still lives locally.
Front row
Liam Ryan:
From 98 Street, he went on to play senior football with Graiguecullen while also
lining out with St Pat's Boys. He lives in Carlow town.
Willie O'Connor:
From Pearse Road, he lost touch with the club but is believed to living in the
area.
Dermot Webb:
From Oakley Park, he has a background in painting and decorating and lives in
Graiguecullen.
Liam Ramsbottom:
From Henry Street, he went on to play football with Graiguecullen but when he
moved to Carlow he togged out with Eire Og. He lives in Carlow Town.
Aidan (The Gadget) Power:
He is still extremely active playing over 35s in the Carlow League. From Pacelli
Avenue, his background is in the construction industry and he is now living in
Colclough Avenue.
James Murnane:
He was from Maher Road originally and he is self employed with a tiling
business. He is living in Oakley Park.
Liam Byrne:
From Duggan Avenue, he worked in Carlow for a number of years after leaving
school but eventually emigrated to England and is working in London now.
Alan Begley (RIP):
He was a gifted footballer who twice won player of the tournament in a soccer
tournament in Belmont in England while touring with St Pat's Boys. He lived in
Sleaty Street but tragically lost his life in an accident some years after this
photograph was taken.
Chris Lawler:
From Duggan Avenue he was a noted goalkeeper who played up to underage with
Graiguecullen GFC. He still lives locally.
