County of Carlow to witt...
1848 |
The Information of John Anderson, Sub Inspector of
Constabulary stationed at Borris in said County. Informant
being duly Sworn on the Holy Evangelists and Examined, saith
On the 23rd day of September 1848. I met Alexander Morrisson,
James Thornbury and John McKeague outside the Town of
Borris, followed them into the Town, had them arrested and
examined them in the Police Barrack, after some time they
admitted voluntarily that they had arrived from America on
business connected with the Rebellion in this Country and
proceeded to Waterford for that purpose and in order to take
a part in said Rebellion, that they were disappointed and
were about to return to Dublin , go from Dublin to Liverpool
and then return to America. James Thornbury said he would
probably go to the North of Ireland to see his friends
before he proceeded to America. Alexander Morrisson stated
he had been in the American Army, that he got One Hundred
Dollars as a Bounty for Land which he sold and which enabled
him to come over after the War with Mexico was concluded.
