The news of the death of Mrs. Langran created great
sorrow She was a member of an old and respected family and universal
sympathy has been expressed with her husband and the members of her
family.
The death is announced of Thomas Lawlor U D C who
was not only popular in the general acceptance of the term but was
highly respected and esteemed in all the relations that become a good
Catholic an ardent Nationalist a sincere friends and in the family
circle a devoted husband and affectionate father.

James O’Brien an esteemed and wealthy resident of
Braidwood Australia died recently Mr O’Brien who was a native of Carlow
went to Australia fifty two years ago at the invitation of his brother
the Venerable Dean O’Brien first parish priest of Braid-wood Three
brothers priests in Ireland survive him.

Died June 4 at Baillnagall Aries (Arles) Mrs
Maryanne Kelly relict of the late Bryan Kelly at the advanced age of 87
years.
On May 26 after a few days serious illness
fortified by the Last Sacrament of the church. Mrs. Maria Moore morette
Emo Parish departed this life at the age of 74.
August 22, 1908,
The death is announced of Miss Mary McLaughlin at
her residence Kilree street Bagnalstown The deceased young lady was well
known and highly respected in and around Bagnalstown The remains were
removed to St Andrews church where mass was celebrated by the Rev Father
Donnelly CC After mass the funeral cortege started for Dunlickney
cemetery A large number of the Presentation convent teachers and pupils
walked in the funeral procession The chief mourners were Charles
McLoughlin father Francis, Charles and Patrick McLoughlin brothers.

year last week John F Lecky D.L. who was widely known and
respected.
September 12, 1908,
The death of Mr. John Hanrahan has caused much
regret in Carlow He was a nephew of the late Mr. John Hammond M P and at
the time of the death of that esteemed gentleman Mr. Hanrahans name was
brought prominently before the constituency by his announcement of
himself as a candidate for the parliamentary vacancy.
The choice of the electors however fell upon Mr. W
McMurragh Kavanagh and Mr Hanrahan who was a prominent solicitor in the
southern capital returned to Cork where his death is much lamented.

Two new beautiful altars were consecrated recently
in Tinryland church by the Most Rev Dr Foley Bishop of Kildare and
Leighlin and High Mass was I celebrated and an eloquent sermon suitable
to the occasion was preached by the Most Rev Dr Fogarty Bishop of
Killaloe.

O’Reilly took place in Carlow cathedral at which Rev John Cullen PP
Tinryland presided and a considerable number of clergy took part in the
choir The funeral was very largely attended prominently in the
procession being the Carlow volunteer Fire brigade in which the deceased
had been much Interested.

Dublin’s Carlow Mayor
For the first time in its history of the Dublin
corporation a County Carlow man has been elected to the position of Lord
Mayor of Dublin ”True we have had members of Parliament for Carlow who
occupied that high position” says the Carlow Nationalist but they were
not Carlow men. Viz E.D Grey and Charles Dawson. The new Lord Mayor is
Gerald O’Reilly who hails from Eagle Hill Hacketstown, County Carlow
though he was claimed by one of his ardent supporters at his recent
election as being a County Wicklow man and very nearly a chieftain of
the O’Reilly clan. But no, the Lord Mayor can not get over the fact that
he is a Carlow man and has no claim on Wicklow further than he was born
within a few miles of its border.
December 12, 1908,
Garrett Bryne was so seriously injured in a
threshing machine accident at Killerig County Carlow that he died the
following day. Four young children survive him.
