The Book of
Tipperary
The
Book of County TipperaryA manual and directory for manufacturers, merchants, traders, professional men, land-owners,
farmers, tourists, anglers and sportsmen generally.
by
George Henry Bassett
DUBLIN 1889
Transcribed from the original by Brian
Phelan, County Cork.
Arranged for inclusion on this site, with his permission, by Richard
Callanan and Christina Hunt. The complete directory in a single file of
about 20MB can be read at Brian Phelan's website. http://homepage.eircom.net/~rareclonmel/default.htm
The compilation on this website includes practically all 10,000 + entries from the original. It is however limited to entries which included a person's name. Some institutions (some schools, for example,) are listed in the original without personal names and are not included here.
The files are organised:
i. Alphabetically by SURNAME. [names beginning O' and Mac are to be found in the O and M sections, but as in all Irish research the name without O' should also be searched).
ii. Alphabetically by LOCATION. The major towns are listed but so are many smaller areas but not by any recognisable criterion. Some people living adjacent to each other have been listed in different locations. Check both the area you are interested in and a nearby town/parish.iii. The fields from left to Right are: Title; First Name; Last Name; Group (Trade, Profession, Business etc); Address (Street, Townland); Town; & Notes.
