(Obviously a two
company unit. The Jackson’s were two of the family who put the most
strangely missing Jackson collection together which was left later to
the people of Carlow and should have been the basis of the local
museum).

The Cloydagh
Cavalry mentioned above are obviously the same unit. The Cloydagh
Infantry were a reorganisation of them later on. These units are
interesting examples of the notably few corps raised from portions of
two counties).
Cloydagh and Killeshin Cavalry and Infantry41
(Cloydagh Yeomanry, Lt Coin Rochfort's Yeomanry) |
1798 |
(Almost all of the
early cavalry corps included infantry or dismounted elements. This
appelation more than likely refers to the unit generally called
'cavalry’
listed immediately above).
County Carlow Yeomanry42 |

1st Carlow Infantry |
1820, 1825 |

Garryhunden Cavalry and In£antry43 |
1793 |
-
1st Captain Sir R Butler
-
2nd Capt Thomas Butler
-
Lieut Charles Moore McMahon
|
(This is obviously
another name for the Carlow cavalry commanded by Sir Richard Butler
listed above. As Thomas Butler was 15 in 1798 it is likely that Ryan is
wrong in naming him 2nd captain).

This may be another
name for the 1st Carlow Infantry and in its turn may be a re-formation
as infantry of an earlier cavalry corps).
