Description Copy of will of Joshua Paul Meredyth, late of the city of Dublin, but currently a prisoner in the King's Bench prison in England. Bequeaths to his friend, Lancellot Fisher, city of Dublin, attorney, several plots of land including the lands of Knockavagh and Knocklisinmore, county Carlow. Meredyth charges these lands with an annuity of £200 sterling to be paid to his reputed son by Sarah Birch, Joshua Paul Meredyth. Codicil also present.

Recites past indentures relating to demised property beginning with lease dated 27 June 1763 (described as document number P1/0177). In consideration of sum of £14, Dowling conveys to Bernard the dwelling house and piece of waste ground at Chapel lane, Carlow. A second dwelling house used to stand on the waste ground.

Recites deed of release dated 19 October 1782 made between Richard [Scooly], Belleek, county Fermanagh, esquire, and Alice Russell, Carlow, county Carlow, widow and executrix of James Russell, Carlow, gentleman, deceased. Scooly leased to Russell part of the lands known as Bullock park with a small mill in the town of Carlow containing 6 acres plantation measure. Lease to run for a named life at annual rent of £5.8.6. By deed of renewal dated 3 February 1827 made between Sir Charles Burton, Pollertown (Pollerton), county Carlow, and John Barker, Kilcullen, county Kildare, doctor of medicine, whereby Sir Charles demised to Barker two parks in Burrin Land, near Catherlough (Carlow) formerly in the possession of Henry Russell containing 3 acres and 3 roods and 3 acres, 3 roods and 7 perches. Lease to be held for named lives with covenant for perpetual renewal at annual rent of £7.5.9 sterling. By deed of renewal dated 22 December 1830 made between Benedict Hamilton, Fort hill, county Carlow, esquire, and John Barker, whereby Hamilton granted to Barker a plot of ground for named lives with covenant for perpetual renewal. It is stated that the interest in all of these leases is now vested in John Barker, party to the present indenture. John Barker now transfers all of the aforementioned lands to Thomas Barker upon trust permitting John Barker to receive all rents and profits during his life. After, John Barker's death, surplus rents of the lands to be paid to James Russell Barker, next eldest brother of John Barker. Further terms also outlined. It is noted that this deed was registered at the Register Office, city of Dublin, on 13 March 1832 in book 881, page 373, number 584373.

Formerly in the possession of the Bishop of Elphin. Lease to run for named lives with covenant for perpetual renewal. Renewal now granted and lands are described as two fields at Cullenswood, parish of Saint Peter, barony of Uppercross, county Dublin.

Annual rent of £2.19.4½. Also recites details of lease dated 24 December 1776 made between William Leybourne and Hudson Bernard in respect of the garden on the east side of Chapel lane, Carlow. Bounded on the south with the land Hudson Bernard purchased from Peter Webb and which Webb held from Jocelyn Davison, on the east with Bernard's Quarry field, on the west with the house inhabited by John Rothe and to the north with the chapel and Michael Rooney's holding and limekiln. Lease to run for three named lives with covenant for perpetual renewal. Annual rent of £2.5.6 sterling. Also recites details of lease dated 1 August 1784 made between Philip Bernard, Carlow, esquire, and William Bernard, Carlow, esquire, in respect of part of the lands known as Major Columbine's land near the town of Carlow and containing 4 acres, 2 roods and 25 perches. Bounded on the east by Robert Rothe's land, on the west by the land of Henry Rudkin, esquire, on the north by the turnpike road from Carlow to Castledermot and on the south-east by the lands of Thomas Delany and William Elliott. Lease to run for three lives with covenant for perpetual renewal. Annual rent of 3 guineas per acre. Also recites details of lease dated 30 August 1789 made between John Hamilton and James Hamilton, city of Dublin, esquires, of one part, and William Bernard, of the other part, in respect of part of the lands of Crossnee, barony of Slievmaragah (Slievemargy), Queen's county (Laois), containing 146 acres, 2 roods and 26 perches plantation measure. Lease to run for three named lives or 61 years, whichever lasts longer. Annual rent of £1.15.0 late Irish currency per acre. Also recites lease dated 1 February 1801 made between Francis Byrne, Carlow, county Carlow, esquire, and Thomas Bernard, Gayville, county Carlow, esquire, in respect of dwelling house and houses and backside and garden behind same, situated on the west side of Dublin street, Carlow. Lease to run for 200 years at annual rent of £28.8.9 sterling late Irish currency. The interest in all the aforementioned indentures is now vested in William Bernard, party hereto. Recites details of mortgage and indemnity made between Bernard and Henry Bruen, party hereto, on 26 January 1832, and other agreements made between them. This current indenture relates to Bruen giving Bernard a further sum of £200 and in return, Bernard conveys to Bruen his interest in the aforementioned leases.

Description Fair copy of disentailing conveyance made between Sir Charles William Cuffe Burton, Pollerton, county Carlow, of one part, and Laurence Walker, King's road, Grays inn, county of Middlesex, esquire. Recites indentures of lease and release made on 16 July 1807 and 17 July 1807 respectively. The indenture of release was the marriage settlement made on the marriage of Charles Burton and Susannah Meredyth and the parties were Sir Charles Burton, Pollerton, and Charles Burton, esquire, his eldest son and heir apparent, of the first part, Joshua Paul Meredyth, city of Dublin, esquire, and Susannah Meredyth, his only daughter, of the second part, Joseph Husband, of the third part, Henry Meredyth and John Ward Strattan, of the fourth part, and Sir John White and John Swan, of the fifth part. Recites various details of the marriage settlement including that Sir Charles Burton transferred to Henry Meredyth and John Wall Strattan the town and lands of Knocknabodaly (Knockbodaly), barony of Gowran, county Kilkenny, containing 96 acres, 1 rood and 15 perches. Meredyth and Strattan to hold these lands in trust so that Sir Charles Burton can receive annuity of £86.9.0. The right to these lands passed to various members of the Burton family and is now vested in Sir Charles William Cuffe Burton who wishes to acquire the fee simple of the lands. Sir Charles now defeats all estates tail in the lands. He also transfers to Walker by virtue of a bargain and sale the following: the lands, houses, plots and fields about the town of Carlow as they were held by Owen Feltham, gentleman, or his undertenants containing 254 acres; part of the lands of Catherlough (Carlow) commonly called Rathnapish containing 61 acres and 2 roods. Bounded on the west with the Dublin road, on the north with Painstown (or Oak Park), on the east with lands called Little Pollardstown (Pollerton) and on the south with Feltham's holding. Also, the town and lands of Pollardstown (Pollerton) containing 225 acres plantation measure. Also, piece of ground in Carlow town bounded on the north by Dublin road and on the west by Chapel lane. Also, parcels of land in the townland of Ballymore Eustace, barony of Newcastle and Uppercross, county Dublin, commonly known as the Duke of York's lands, containing 58 acres, 3 roods and 16 perches. Also, a close or park commonly called Luckomb's park in or near Cullen or Cullenswood, county Dublin, containing 6 acres. Also transfers to Walker the annuity of £86.9.0 arising out of the townland Knocknobodaly (Knockbodaly). To be held by Walker forever to the use of Sir Charles. It is noted that this indenture was enrolled at the Office of the Rolls of Her Majesty's High Court of Chancery in Ireland on 17 October 1845. It is also noted that this deed was registered at the Registry Office, city of Dublin, on 12 November 1845 in book 17, number 247.
