Additional information: Reciting
that differences had arose between the said Samuel and
Margaret and that this Margaret was desirous to live apart
from the said Samuel and the said Samuel in consideration of
five shillings sterling to him paid by the said John Dowling
did grant assign and make over unto the said John Dowling one
annuity or yearly rent charge of one hundred pounds sterling
to be issuing and payable out of all that the Brew house
Dwelling house malt houses stores and other out houses in the
tenure of Redmond Dowling situate in the town of Carlow the
same to be paid half yearly and to commence from the twenty
fifth day of march then last to hold to the said John Dowling
from the said twenty fifth day of march for and during the
natural life of the said Margaret Carpenter in Trust never
the less for the use of the said Margaret, the said annuity
to be in full discharge of all demands for cloathing
diet lodging and other
necessaries which the said Margaret might have of claim
against the said Samuel Carpenter subject to several
provisions conditions and agreements in this article
contained which said Deed is witnessed by Lieutenant John
Green of the town of Carlow and Bartholomew Cliff of the city
of Dublin Gent and this Memorial is witnessed by Edward
Vigors of Graige in the Queens county Gent and this
Bartholomew Cliff.

To the Register appointed for
registering Deeds and so forth. A Memorial of an indented
deed dated the twenty ninth day of April one thousand seven
hundred and seventy seven between John King of Ardnehue in
the county of Carlow Gent of the first part Phillip Brophy of
Ardnehue aforesaid Gent of the second part and Redmond
Dowling of the town of Carlow Merchant and Margaret Dowling
otherwise McDonagh otherwise King his wife of the third part
which said John King, Phillip Brophy and Redmond Dowling are
executors of the last will and testament of Richard King late
of Carlow aforesaid deceased and which said Redmond Dowling
and Margaret Dowling are executors of the last will and
testament of Elizabeth King then lately deceased being the
widow of said Richard King reciting that said Richard King by
his last will bequeathed unto said Elizabeth and John King
all his personal estate share and share alike to the intent
that they the said Elizabeth and John should enjoy the same
jointly during their lives with provision that on the said
John’s marrying and having issue said joint partnership
should desolve and that it should be in said John’s power to
take to his own sole use one half of said estates and effects
of the said Richard deceased and that said Elizabeth might
bequeath her half to such of said Richards grandchildren as
she should think proper and that the said John King since
married and has issue on which the said Elizabeth Duly made
her last will and thereby bequeath her moiety of said effects
of said Richard amongst his grandchildren in such shares and
proportions as therein mentioned and that on a settlement of
the said effects and estate of said Richard King deceased
after deducting debts and legacies it amounted to three
thousand nine hundred and sixty six pounds sterling in good
security’s for money and two hundred ounces of plate and
other matters therein mentioned and that said John King hath
taken out of said securities the sum of one thousand nine
hundred and eighty three pounds sterling and one hundred and
ten ounces of plate and that said Redmond Dowling and
Margaret received from said John King out of his securities
the sum of one thousand nine hundred and eighty three pounds
sterling and one hundred and ten ounces of plate and that
said John King as Executors retains in his hands the sum of
three hundred and twenty pounds for discharging the legacies
there mentioned by which said Deed of which this is a
Memorial the said John King, Redmond Dowling and Margaret
Dowling for them their executors and administrators
exonerated and discharged
the said Phillip Brophy his
executors and
administrators off and from the said several securities for
money and plate and off and from all acts matters and things
by him therefore done as one of the executors of the said
Richard and the said John King doth exonerate the said
Redmond Dowling his executors and administrators off and from
the said several sums of money securities and the said
Redmond and Margaret Dowling do for them their executors and
administrators exonerate and discharge the said John King his
executors and administrators of and from the said several
sums of money securities and plate and every matter
touching the same in which
Deed are contained clauses of indemnity and witnessed by
Samuel Carpenter and James Ryan both of – aforesaid and this
Memorial is witnessed by the said James Ryan and by Michael
Macabe of the city of Dublin Gent James King Seale Signed and
Sealed in our presence James Ryan Michael Macabe James Ryan
of Carlow maketh oath that he saw the Deed of which the
Annexed writing is a Memorial duly executed by the parties
thereto and said Memorial duly signed and by John King in
said Deed named and Deponent is a subscribing witness to said
Deed and Memorial etc. etc.

by Mr. Christopher Phillips in the possession of Thomas
Murphy, River Barrow and Turnpike Road, Edward Byrn holding
in the possession of Cornelius Whelan in town of Ballynockane
barony of Idrone co Carlow. Thomas Tomlinson has a residence
and a distillery. William Stewart Indented deed dated 10
April 1779 plot formerly in possession of James Plunkett
bounded by Martin Mulroony, Robert Disney with Cottoners
Lane. Thomas Tomlinson has built five tenements where he has
settled John Salts, Edward Hughes, Thomas Walsh and two
premises made over to James Dowling.
