MRS. ROONEY IS BURIED
Mrs. Catherine Rooney, Plymouth, widow of the late James Rooney, passed
away Thursday morning at her home as a result of apoplexy. The funeral
services were held this morning from St. John's Catholic church. Interment took
place in St. Michael's cemetery in the town of Mitchell. Catherine Murphy was born in County Carlow, Ireland, Nov. 8, 1842 and
came with her parents to this country, settling in Wisconsin in 1849. In
1867 she was married to James Rooney at Fon du Lac and came to this county to
reside. For many years they lived in the town of Mitchell. The moved to
Plymouth, where her husband preceded her in death Feb. 17, 1911. She is survived by four children, Attorney H.J. Rooney, Plymouth, John Roney [sic], town of Mitchell, Mrs. Edward Cooney and Miss Agnes Rooney
at home. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. Mary Carmon of Maple Grove.

Hickey
Andrew Hickey, an old and highly respected resident of the town of Friendship, Fond du Lac county, died last Saturday morning, aged 80
years. Mr. Hickey was born in Rathvilley, County Carlow, Ireland, but came to
this country in 1847. He is survived by his widow and six daughters. Three
of the daughters married men by the name of Martin and one of the latter, Mrs.
J.C. Martin, lives in this city. Mrs. Martin and two children went down to
attend the funeral, which was held at the Catholic church in North Fond du Lac
at 10:30 Tuesday morning.

MATTHEW FLEMING
Matthew Fleming died of paralysis of the brain Monday at his home in Riverton. He was born in County Carlow, Ireland, March 31, 1832, and
came to this country in 1851. He was a coal miner by occupation and was one of
the best and most highly respected citizens of Riverton. He leaves to mourn their loss, his widow and nine children, namely, Mrs. William Smith,
Patrick and William Fleming, all of whom are married, and Lawrence and Miss
Hannah Fleming, all residing in Riverton; Mrs. E. Van Hohn, of Decatur, James Fleming and Mrs. W. Gregg of Decatur, and Mrs. Millard Mitchell, of Monterey, Mexico. The funeral was held Wednesday at the family
residence.

Ryan
Many at Fredericton heard with surprise yesterday of the death of Mr.
Ryan. Mr. Ryan had been confined to his house for some time with la grippe.
He slowly sank and died at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Mr. Ryan was
born at Carlow, Ireland and would be 39 years old on July 12th next. His
parents came out to Upper Canada when he was yet very young. Then he lived in
St. Stephen and then Bath. He removed to Millville (York Co.) where he
spent seventeen years and finally came to Fredericton. He conducted extensive milling operations at Millville. He leaves behind a wife and five
children, two girls and three boys. His brothers are Hugh Ryan, Patrick Ryan,
Lawrence Ryan and Thomas Ryan of Johnville (Carleton Co.), John Ryan, Arthurette (Victoria Co.) and his sisters, Mrs. Cummings, Johnville and Mrs.
Maddox, Wicklow. The funeral will take place tomorrow morn. ten o'clock from
his residence, corner of St. John and Charlotte streets.

Ryan
Many in Fredericton heard with sorrow yesterday of the death of M.
Ryan. He had been confined to his house for some time with la grippe. Sunday he
felt well enough to resume work on Monday. But he remained home that day and
in the morn. was attacked with epileptic fits which continued throughout
the day. Tuesday he quieted down somewhat but remained unconscious. He
slowly sank and died at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Mr. Ryan was born at
Carlow, Ireland and would be 39 years old, July 12th next. His parents came out

The funeral of Mr. Ryan occurred this morn. The body was conveyed to
the chapel where high mass was said by Father Chataillon and the burial was
in the Catholic cemetery. James Hanlon was the undertaker.

Cummins
Simon Cummins, a well known resident of Johnville (Carleton Co.) died
Jan. 18. The deceased, a native of County Carlow, Ireland, was born in 1819. He
came to America while yet a young man and settled on the St. Croix. In 1861
he moved to Johnville, being one of the three earliest settlers from whose efforts we have the prosperous Johnville of today. Shortly after this
move he started a business in Bath and under his careful eye a most
lucrative trade was done. Much of his time was devoted to scientific farming,
stock raising etc. During his life he had various official positions. He was municipal councillor for the parish of Kent for a number of years. He
was the first postmaster, which capacity he served up to the time of his
death and he was Justice of the Peace. In a recent sermon at St. John the
Baptist church, Very Rev. Mons. Connolly, who was thoroughly acquainted with
the deceased, eulogized his career. Mr. Cummins leaves a family of three
sons and five daughters.

McMAHON
McMAHON, Sean - Suddenly, at his farm in Guelph, on Friday, August 22,
2003. Sean McMahon, in his 76th year was the beloved husband of Marilyn (Belyea) McMahon of Guelph. He was the loving father of Mary Lou McMahon of
Guelph, Patricia and her husband Dean Scott of Guelph, Maureen and her husband
Gary Bowers of Coaticook, Quebec, Sean W. and his wife Ruth of Guelph and
Brian and his wife Jodi of Belwood. Sean was the proud grandfather of Melissa
and Glenn Bowers, Shannon, Colleen and Alannnah Scott, Sean Aidan and Liam McMahon and Kiarra McMahon.
He is survived by his six brothers and five sisters and also by many nieces and nephews. Sean is predeceased by an infant daughter and by a son, Kevin and also by his parents, George and Margaret McMahon of Carlow, Ireland. The family will receive friends at their home, Shamrock Farms, 5730 Wellington Rd. 7, Guelph (The Elora
Rd.) on Tuesday, August 26th, 2003 (today) from 2-9 p.m. A Vigil for Sean will
take place on Tuesday evening at 8:30 p.m. A private family Funeral Mass and burial to be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2003. As expressions of
sympathy, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario or to the
charity of one's choice would be appreciated by the family.

Mrs. Mary McWilliams Dead
Mrs. Mary McWilliams died at the hospital in St. Louis, Thursday,
December 20th, after an illness which had endured for about three years but
which did not become serious until a few days before her death. The remains
arrived here last Sunday and were buried in the Catholic cemetery after
benediction at the Church of Immaculate Conception being interred beside those of
her husband who died in 1902. The pall bearers, chosen from old family
friends, were: John Brady, John Mullen, John Powell, Tim Sullivan, Martin
Sweeney and Thomas Mainey. Mary McDonnell was born in County Carlow, Ireland, in
1837, most of her early life being spent in Dublin. She came to America in
1866 settling at St. Louis. Later she moved to St. Marys where she made her
home with her brother, Michael McDonnell and Mrs. Mary Byrnes. On February
22, 1876, she was married to Michael McWilliams at the old Cathedral by
Father Kuppens, S.J., now at Florisant, Mo. Together they began to build a
home on the land which they purchased from the Santa Fe southwest of this city. Besides her brother, Michael McDonnell, four children remain to mourn
her loss, John, Alexander and Mary at home and James at the St. Louis University. No better eulogy can be read over any mother who has gone
than to state that her children now grown command the respect of all and who
have received a superb christian training.

RYAN
RYAN, DORA - Dora Ryan, age 90, died on Thursday, February 24, 2000 at
Fishkill Health Related Center, in Beacon, NY, where she resided for the
last 3 years. She was born on September 20th, 1909 in Graig Namana, County
Carlow, Ireland. She was the daughter of Dennis and Elizabeth Farrell
Fitzpatrick. She was educated in Ireland. On June 1st, 1930, she married
Andrew Ryan at Holy Rosary Church in Yonkers; later, in 1939, she moved to
Hastings and lived there until 1974 when she retired to Florida. Mr. Ryan
died on March 8, 1981. She was predeceased by two brothers, Michael and
Christopher and two sisters, Lily and Bridget. Mrs. Ryan is survived by
her son, Andrew, of Dunedin, FL; her two daughters, Mrs. Doreen Ooman of
Gulfport, FL and Mrs. Lillian Capuano, of Calabash, NC, her sons-in-law,
John Ooman and Ralph Capuano; and her daughter-in-law, Beverly Ryan of
Yonkers. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 16
great-grandchildren. Wake to be held Sunday, February 27, 2000 at the
Hastings Funeral Home, Inc., from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass 10 AM Monday,
February 28, 2000 at St. Matthewės R.C. Church, Hastings. Interment
